A soft chime broke Michael free from his thoughts. The small display between him and Jessica had turned on and tried to grab their attention. A small pictogram and text asked them to put on seat-belts. But before he could say something, he already heard the positive click of Jessica’s strap.

She smiled friendly and dismissed it with a quick: “Better do what the cab says!” Michael nodded uneasy and followed suit.

After some long minutes Jessica didn’t want to suffer the silence any longer and asked: “This is way odd. What happens now?” and proposed: “We should call someone.” Without moving his gaze away from the symbol on the screen, Michael asked: “Like. Who?”

The relay clicking of the turning signal spooked both out of their thoughts. The open road switched place with a narrow cobblestone street. Jessica looked outside and saw the inner city drawing nearer: “This is market street, isn’t it?” But as she looked over to see why Michael wasn’t answering, she found him staring at the display again. Realizing he hadn’t provided an answer, he said: “Yes. But why are we driving down here? There is no route to our place from here.” He paused and added: “Beside right back again.”

The car lurched forward and the people and buildings outside became a blur. Instead of the smooth rhythm of cobblestones, there now was a haunted cacophony of the vehicle fighting for traction. With squealing wheels it raced on, throwing its occupants into the seat belts. The motor screamed as it wrestled all power it had onto the street. But before their bodies could settle down again the brakes locked up.

The noise of slipping wheels became deafening and climaxed in a wet thud sound at the front of the vehicle. A body hit the windscreen. Thick smears of blood traced the path of where it had slid across the panoramic roof and fell off the back.

The mangled body of a small girl now laid broken behind the car. Jessica and Michael could see her dead eyes staring into eternity through the big windows of the car.

Something caught Michael’s eyes as people began to stream towards them. There was a strange device resting in one hand of the victim. It looked like the handle of an electric drill, trigger and all. Wires protruded from its bottom, and vanished inside the victim’s jacket. Before he could make the mental connection, there were shouts about a Bomb. All those people that came to help now tried everything to get away again.

A small pool of crimson formed beneath the motionless body. Like a candle wick, a strange belt around the girl’s chest soaked up the liquid. It looked like in a Movie, down to the drab green boxes with wires sticking in the top.

Jessica forced herself to look away and her gaze fell on the lit display, it read:
